INTRODUCTION

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

VAMNICOM’s Centre for Management Education offers a two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) programme from the year 1993. The centre seeks to mould its young students who come from different academic backgrounds and with diverse skills in to competent professionals of tomorrow. The students learn to combine the use of technical skills with the understanding of the socio-cultural system to emerge as leaders in their fields and make significant contribution through management in all sectors of the society. Considering the ever growing requirement for professional Managers in the fields of Agriculture, Banking and Insurance, the PGDBM programme has been thoroughly restructured with specialisation in two streams viz., Agri Business Management (ABM) and Banking and Insurance Management (BIM). Students evolve through a structured process that enables them to:

- Develop required conceptual base in the different subject areas of relevance
- Acquire the relevant skills in using modern management tools and techniques
- Develop application skills of appropriate management techniques in the context of agri business / banking & Insurance

CME offers 40 seats in Agri Business Management (ABM) and Banking and Insurance Management (BIM) at Pune Campus and 20 seats in Agri Business Management (ABM) at its sub-center at RICM, Chandigarh.

The PGDBM has been recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India and recognised by Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to M.B.A. degree.

The programme comprises two segments – classroom and organisational traineeship. Of these, the first involves an exposure to concepts, skills and knowledge in the classroom, while the second involves first-hand experience of understanding organisations. Evaluation of students’ performance in the Programme is a continuous process, affording opportunity for frequent and regular corrections. All the segments of Programme – classroom study, fieldwork, organisational traineeship – are evaluated and the results reported on students’ grade card. Students are expected to meet the standards of performance prescribed by the PGDBM Committee for each segment.

CLASSROOM SEGMENT
The PGDBM programme is designed with classroom teaching component integrating case method pedagogy. 36 credits are required to be completed in 6 terms. 24 credits of subjects offered on General Management and 10 credits of specialisation subjects are offered in the area of (i) Agri Business Management and (ii) Banking and Insurance Management. Two credit courses are devoted to project courses to equip the students to take up challenging assignments in the Agri Business, Banking and Insurance sectors.

ORGANISATIONAL TRAINEESHIP
Every student has to undergo eight weeks of organisational Traineeship which is compulsory during April and May after completion of the first year course. The report prepared by the student will be evaluated by the organisation where the student was placed for traineeship and the same is required to be presented in the class room. The cost involved in organizational traineeship will have to be borne by the candidates themselves.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND OVERSEAS ORGANISATIONAL TRAINEESHIP
NCUI scholarship of Rs. 20000/- per annum is given to five students as per the norms of National Co-operative Union of India.

IFFCO scholarship of Rs. 1250/- per month is given to Two SC and One ST students on merit basis.

As part of an MoU between VAMNICOM and National Institute of Co-operative Development (NICD), Sri Lanka, two of the PGDBM students will get organisational Traineeship at Sri Lanka. Under this agreement, VAMNICOM provides one way air travel expenditure and lodging & boarding facilities are provided by NICD, Sri Lanka.
