Started as co-operative training college in 1947 and was renamed
latter as National co-operative Training College.In 1962 it was further given
its name as National co-operative College and Research Institute NCCRI)
In the year 1964, a High level working group appointed by the
Government of India under the Chairmanship of the late Prof. D.R.Gadgil to
assess the training needs of the co-operative sector, recommended the setting
up of a National Institute which would undertake the training of senior
personnel in the co-operative institutions/departments, conduct
fundamental/applied research and provide consultancy services, organise courses
in business management for senior personnel in co-operative business
organisations and train the youth on various facets of Management.
As a tribute to & memory of the great co-operative leader
& Philosopher Late shri. Vaikunth Mehta, the National Institute was named
after him, as Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of co-operative Management.
Consequently, the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of
co-operative Management (VAMNICOM) was conceived as an intellectual nerve
centre for the co-operative movement and has been functioning as the apex
management training institute for over 50 years, catering to the management
development, training, research and consultancy needs of various co-operative
organisations, government departments and other national bodies.

OUR MISSION
The mission of VAMNICOM is to facilitate building cadres of professional
managers to man key positions in the ever growing number of co-operatives
through management development, training, education, research and consultancy.
OUR FOCUS
Improve the decision making skills and administrative competence of
practicing managers in the co-operative sector.
Provide educational facilities for young men and women seeking career in
management through the Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM)
& Diploma in Co-operative Business Management (DCBM), Programmes.
Carry out applied research and disseminate the information through publications
in addition to library retrieval and documentation services.
Assist organisations in solving their management problems by providing
consultancy services.
Participate in and contribute to the formulation of policy for co-operatives.
Collaborate with other institutions in India and abroad to further its
objectives.
MANAGEMENT TRAINING
VAMNICOM's Centre for Management Development Programmes Conducts around hundred
short duration Executive / Management Development Programmes for Senior / Top
Level Officials / non-officials of the co-operative sector. Orientation
training programmes are also organized for sponsored officers from the Indian
Administrative Services (IAS), the Indian Forest Services (IFS) and the
Chairman and Managing Directors of National level Co-operative Organisations
like the National Co-operative Development Corporation(NCDC), Indian Farmers
Fertilizer Co-operative Limited (IFFCO), Krishak Bharti Co-operative Limited
(KRIBHCO)and Apex Level Co-operative Banks and other Co-operative Institutions,
NGOs etc. and also gets conducted training programmes on request from user
organisations to fulfill their training needs. The Institute undertakes
sponsored need based programmes and on the spot programmes either on its own or
through the collaborative arrangements.
INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATIONS
VAMNICOM Collaborates with various international agencies / organisations like
the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA), International Labour
Organisation (ILO), Food & Agricultural Organisation, (FAO), NICD Srilanka
etc., we also conduct Exchange programmes in collaboration with the Department
of International Technical and Economic Co-operation (ITEC), Ministry of
External Affairs and offer training programmes for senior executives from
co-operatives in developing countries.
The Institute has also been an active promoter in the establishment for the
Centre for International Co-operation and Training in Agricultural Banking
(CICTAB) which is engaged in imparting training in the field of agricultural /
rural banking to professionals from SAARC countries.
MANAGEMENT EDUCATION (COOPERATIVE MANAGEMENT)
The National Institute through its centre for Management Education conducts 36
weeks Diploma in Co-operative Business Management (DCBM) for the in-service
personnel in the Co-operative Sector in Order to ensure skills upgradation.
Scholars from Asia & Africa also take advantage of this programme every
year under various international schemes of training. DCBM is recognized by the
Government of India. The various organisations such as NCDC, NAFED, NCARDF,
Sugar Federation & NCUI etc. have instituted ten Fellowships for the
participants of DCBM Programme.
MANAGEMENT EDUCATION (PGDBM)
VAMNICOM's centre for Management Education offers a two-year Post Graduate
Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) programme from the year 1993. the centre
seeks to mould its young students who come from different academic backgrounds
and with diverse skills in to competent professionals of tomorrow. The students
learn to combine the use of technical skills with the understanding of the
socio-cultural system to emerge as leaders in their fields and make significant
contribution through management in all sectors of the society. Considering the
ever growing requirement for professional managers in the field of Agriculture,
the PGDBM programme has been thoroughly restructured with specialization
in Agri Business Management (ABM). Students evolve through a
structured process that enables them to :
Develop required conceptual base in the different subject areas of relevance -
Acquire the relevant skills in using modern management tools and techniques -
Develop application skills of appropriate management techniques in the context
of Agri-Business.
The PGDBM has been recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education
(AICTE), Government of India and recoginised by Association of Indian
Universities as equivalent to M.B.A. degree.
The programme comprises two segments - classroom and organizational
traineeship. Of these, the first involves an exposure to concepts, skills and
knowledge in the classroom, while the second involves first-hand experience of
understanding organizations. Evaluation of students performance in the
programme is a continuous process, affording opportunity for frequent and
regular corrections.
RESEARCH, CONSULTANCY AND PUBLICATION
This Institute's Centre for Research, Consultancy and Publication undertaking
various research projects serves background material for policy level
decisions. This is also a recognized centre for conducting research, leading to
the award of Doctorate degrees of University of Pune in various disciplines of
economics, management and commerce. The Institute also provides consultancy in
various areas of management to the user organizations through its Action
Research Programme. The Department of Women & Child Development, Ministry
of Human Resource Development, Government of India has recognized the Institute
as a Consultant for evaluating the women dairy projects. The studies were
conducted in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Orissa, Bihar & Rajasthan in this
regard. We have undertaken extensive projects for various other Ministers,
Co-operative Institutions and State Governments, etc.
"Co-operative Perspective" is a quarterly publication of the national Institute
which is academic journal based on research work carried out in relevant
fields. The journal has a wide circulation both national as well as
international. The Co-operative Perspective was adjudged as best co-operative
journal in the country by the National Co-operative Union of India (NCUI) for
the year 2002-2003. In addition, a large number of publication by the faculty
members are also available in various fields and management topics.
ACADEMIC STRENGTH
The National Institute is headed by Shri Bhagwati Prasad, Director. The
Academic strength of the Institute lies in a team of highly qualified and
dedicated core faculty comprising of six Professors, eight Associate
Professors, five Asstt. Professors, four Lecturers. Most of the faculty members
have vast experience both at the university and National level Institutions on
one hand as well as industry experience on the other. They have had
international exposure in the area of their specialization. The faculty members
have the distinctive advantage of having intellectual interactions with
delegates around the globe, who visit the institute at intervals on current
social, economic and technological developments.
COMPUTER CENTRE
The Institute's center for Information Technology has state of the art IT setup
to facilitate the students and participants. In all there are 89 personal
computers (PCs) in the Institute networked through two separate local area
Networks and three IBM Servers. Computer Lab, which has been recently renovated
has 40 P-IV computers connected to IBM e-server. Latest software's are being
used in the Institute like Windows 2000 servers, Linux, Netware on servers and
Windows 98/2000/XP on desktop PCs, MS- Office Project & other Softwares for
students. The IT set up of the Institute Includes Other useful hardware devices
like Scanner, CD-Writers, Printers etc. The Internet facility is made available
to the entire setup through two separate ISDN lines of 64 kbps . Participants /
student avails Computer Lab from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm. Considering the need of
the co-operative institutions for proper and systematic implementation of
computerization, the institute has created separate section for training &
consultancy, information & computer maintenance for better service to its
users. The Centre for Information Technology has a team of dedicated well
qualified and experienced faculty members who have extended the services to
national level to primary level co-operative institutions.
GLOBAL NET WORKING CENTRE
VAMNICOM with the assistance of National Cooperative Union of India and
International Cooperative Alliance has launched a Global Portal in February
2007 with the objective of networking worldwide Cooperative Institutions
imparting Education and Training. The portal intends to provide access to
details about Member Institution's Training Programmes, Training Material,
Faculty Resources, Global News and Discussion Forum of Member Institutions. The
portal www.hrd.coop, was inaugurated by Mr. Iain Macdonald, Director General,
ICA, Geneva, during an International Workshop on Strengthening of HRD and
Networking of Cooperative HRD Institutions for Asia Pacific at VAMNICOM, Pune,
from 26-28 February 2007, in which 34 persons from India, Nepal, Malaysia, Sri
Lanka and Vietnam participated. 44 HRD Institutions from the countries like
Canada, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal
including India have become members of the portal. |
